Faith In God’s Word

…so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:5).

One of the greatest weapons against the gospel in our day is the so called life principles which have no bearing on gospel preaching, yet are churned out on many pulpits— great and small — weekly. The result is that many believers have imbibed things antithetical to biblical Christianity.

Positive thinking, positive confessions and many other psychological fads have gained roots in the lives of many who identify as Christians making the word of God; the instrument by which God builds the faith of his people relegated to the background and in its place, the cunning and crafty words of preachers have become the foundation upon which many are building their faith.

They are building their faith on sinking sand. It is just a matter of time and the whole structure of their lives will come crumbling down.

For us to grow in faith, it is important we believe the right things. God’s word is the only means by which faith is built and where it is neglected, we are bound to face stunted growth, abuse and error. Rather than building our lives on the wisdom of men, let us sink our anchor deep into the ocean of the Word of God from which our nourishment and security is guaranteed. Let your faith rest in the power of God deposited in his word.

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
